Mountain or river depending on the experience of the rider
Mirador+smugglers way. Perfect for those who don’t feel still totally at ease on the horse and would like to learn while visiting the deep Alentejo. We will ascend by a path of hunters, among chestnut trees and oaks, the typical Atlantic vegetation. From all the way up you can see the border’s countryside. We will go down using some old roads before taking a path that runs through the typical Alentejo «montados», a semi-natural landscape created for breeding cattle in freedom. Guided tours. Suitable for all levels. Water or beer at the end of the ride.
If you already are an experienced rider or you like adventure, we suggest the River route: it includes a little cantering and also a nice downhill to the Sever, the local river. Imposing views or descents cut to peak, always surrounded by the native landscapes of the Natural Park. You can not imagine where the horses can go. Water or beer at the end of the ride. Min. 2 p.

Route of the Dolmens.
Our direction: Spain. We will take the old smugglers’ trails that lead to the border. On the way we will stop on an ancient celtic village, on the top on a hill.
The Wall of the houses still keep their rounded or square shapes, and the view from the top is breathtaking. We then cross the border (only a little stone shows it) and follow a lonely road where we can do a few cantering before taking a narrow trail that will lead us to the dolmens.
A dolmen is a 6,000-year- old human burial made of huge stones and this area has the highest concentration of them in all Western Europe. Aftervisiting them we will stop for a snack, before following our way to the medieval town San Pedro de los Majarretes.
We will have lunch in the ancient convent, where the Saint Pedro had his cell. Typical local food is offered there. Afterwards we will cross the border again (the guide will point it out where it is: in this area, the border is just a political idea) before starting our way home.
Price: 200€. Includes: drinks and snacks, insurance and helmet. Menu paid appart, according to the client’s preferences. Min. 2 p.
Medieval Route: Portagem-Marvão-Castelo de Vide
We will follow the beatiful riverwalk of the Sever the old natural border with Spain, until Portagem. Its name means “toll”, after its role during medieval ages as border between Spain and Portugal.
A badge in the ancient tower gives a tribute to all the Jewish people that used this trail running away from the Spanish Catholic Kings. We will then cross the Rennaissance bridge (made with Roman stones from the nearby Roman city Ammaia) and take the medieval stonepath that used to link Portalegre and Marvão. From there we will take yet another medieval road to Castelo de Vide. When we see this amazing town we will turn back crossing the black oaks’ forest. On the best spot we will stop for a catering pic nic (menu chosen ahead). Then we will head back home. On the top of the next hill we will see the view and take a hunters’ trail through the woods until reaching our facilities. Min. 2 p.
